Have You Ever Downloaded a Book and Never Read It?

Have you ever downloaded a book to your Kindle reader, only to read just the first chapter, or not read any of it at all? I’ve done that, and it’s common for people to buy books and never really read them. When I wrote my Forever Runner Method book, I wanted to ensure that you would not only read it but also take action steps from it. More on that later…

Why Should You Read the Forever Runner Method Book?

Here’s my story… I thought I was recovering well after my first heart attack at the age of 50. I had been a marathoner for many years and had a heart attack, I knew I was doing something wrong. So, I followed all the industry-standard advice and ended up being a successful ultramarathoner, winning age group awards, and getting sponsored by Hammer Nutrition. I was probably much like you; I thought I had it dialed in and could keep running like this forever. I was doing high mileage, tempo runs to get faster, eating a heart-healthy low-fat high-carb diet to maximize energy, and hitting the CrossFit gym twice a week to get strong. But after 12 years of this, at the age of 62, I was sore, tired, and injured all the time. I still struggled to lose that last 5 pounds. The last straw came one Monday morning at my CrossFit gym. Sitting on the bench after my warm-up, I felt that familiar tightness in the chest. I was having another heart attack.

Finding a Better Way with Dr. Phil Maffetone

After another hospital visit, I had to look for better answers. Luckily, I found them with Dr. Phil Maffetone. I learned from Dr. Phil that chronic inflammation and stress were holding me back and ruining my health. I read his books and articles and started following his low heart rate training and low-carb eating advice. I saw immediate results. Running became fun again. I lost that extra weight and could still compete at a high level with dramatically less strenuous training and no injuries. However, as an older runner, you might know that following the Maffetone 180-minus-your-age heart rate training can be difficult and frustrating. It was for me. But I found a couple of shortcuts that worked for me, and I decided to share my method.

Why Older Runners Need a Different Approach

Older runners face the same problems and make the same mistakes. We start running slower as we age and try to run harder to get faster, resulting in constantly being stiff, sore, and more often injured. The old training plans just don’t work anymore. That’s why I developed and refined my nine-step Forever Runner Method into a short, actionable book.

Key Principles of the Forever Runner Method

The book covers three essential keys for running longevity for older runners:

  1. Improving Aerobic Capacity and Efficiency: Learn to run easier and faster without painful speed work.

  2. Switching Your Metabolism to Become More Flexible: End those sugar cravings and hunger pains, burning fat as your preferred fuel throughout the day and effortlessly lose excess weight.

  3. Using Simple Primal Movement Habits: Increase mobility and strength, maintain or grow your muscle mass, and build a strong core foundation to keep you injury-free as you age.

How the Forever Runner Method Book Helps You

This is the exact roadmap I use to help older runners lose excess body fat and run injury-free without complicated diets and strenuous workouts. My book has nine chapters, each ending with three action steps and homework to ensure you complete all chapters and enjoy the full benefits of my method.
